Fresh Caprese Salad with Tomatoes & Basil from the Garden

INGREDIENTS

  • 3–4 ripe heirloom or vine-ripened tomatoes, sliced

  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced

  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • Coarse sea salt to taste

  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

  • Optional: 1–2 tbsp balsamic glaze

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella into 1/4-inch rounds.

  • On a large serving platter, alternate layers of tomato slices, mozzarella slices, and basil leaves in an overlapping pattern.

  • Season generously with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.

  • Drizzle with olive oil and, if desired, balsamic glaze.

  • Serve immediately at room temperature for best flavor and texture.
